Thomas Speed collection, 1903-1905.

This collection consists of a letter written by Archer B. Hulbert, from Marietta, Ohio, April 8, 1903, to Thomas Speed. The letter discusses quoting from Speed's book as well as Hulbert's books. Another item in the collection is a photocopy of a memorial booklet for Speed dated March 22, 1905.

Speed, Thos. (Thomas), 1841-1906

Thomas Speed, lawyer, was born near Bardstown, Kentucky, in 1841. He was a member of the prominent Speed family of Kentucky. During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army, first as a private in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry and lastly as lieutenant and adjutant of the 12th Kentucky Veteran Infantry. Speed later became secretary of the Filson Club and frequently contributed to the club's publications. He died in Louisville January 31, 1905. From the description of Thomas Speed collecti...
